Portrait Photography
Portraits existed long before the invention of photography. Far before there was a camera even to take a photograph, rulers and monarchs hired painters to paint their own portraits. Today, portrait photography has taken the place of this tradition. Portrait photographers are tasked with the goal of capturing the identity and unique personality of a subject in just a single image.
Traditional Portrait
A traditional portrait photo is more formal and is typically taken using studio lighting and backdrop with the subject looking straight into the camera, often referred to as a ‘Head Shot’.
These photographs can be achieved in a very small space. On location service is offered.
Lifestyle Portrait
More casual portraits typically tend to be described as ‘Lifestyle Portraits’. Lifestyle portrait photography captures subjects in everyday situations and environments. Photographs are almost always taken out of a studio and on location.
Lifestyle portraits are more casual and are often used in advertising to relate more to consumers. Because of the more casual nature of shooting lifestyle portraits, many of the photographs are taken candidly.
Capturing people in their natural environments tends to result in more authentic and candid portrait that many clients love.
Environmental Portrait
Environmental portraits are similar to lifestyle portraits except they draw more importance on the environment of the photo. These portraits are often used to reflect the subject’s personality or identity.
Environmental portraits are often used to capture subjects in an environment that best describes them. This may be an artist in their studio, a manufacturer in their workshop, or an office worker behind a desk etc… Think you get the drift!
It’s important to never forget the power of a background. While the subject may be the main point of focus, the background can powerfully complement them in the portrait photograph.

Fees.
My fee structure is as follows:
£90.00 Per hour. Typically a traditional portrait shoot would ordinarily take 2 hours.
£9.00 Per (chosen) image. Retouched high resolution suitable for print.
£1.00 Per mile. Round trip travel expense.
